Two years ago Badamasi Aliyu Abdullahi talked about “dogfooding” aka “eat your own dog food”.
Dogfooding means using the product/software/service that you develop, to ensure it is fit for its purpose and show confidence in it.
Apart from Badamasi’s post I also came across the term in three different books. And I also do a lot of research about it before putting it into practice.
Here is my personal experience!
When we launched the OnTrack – Business App in 2021 we received a lot of suggestions from our users. We ranked the suggestion based on the number of users that make the same suggestion.
Only two people ( Aisha Abdulkadir and one other person) suggested that we should add a feature that allows users to import customers’ contact details from their phone contact instead of writing them manually).
The suggestion ranked very low so we kept it aside.
Two days I shared an update here that our sister company EasyLife Creative Studio now use OnTrack App to manage our business.
That was the best decision we have ever made. – “eating our own dog food”. πππ
We realised that the feature Aisha suggested is a very important feature that’s missing in the App.
We discovered about 10 minor bugs and small glitches in the app and quickly fixed them.
I’m highly excited now we’re using our own product to solve our business problem, we’re upgrading Easylife’s account to premium so that we can have access to full features and bring all out team members onboard.
